A woman was arrested on Saturday in connection to the stabbing of Tulsa County District Judge Sharon Holmes, police department sources told The Frontier.
Adrienne Smith, 28, was arrested Saturday at 1:32 p.m. on a complaint of assault with a dangerous weapon, according to Tulsa Jail logs. She has a court date set for Monday.
Smith is the daughter of Tulsa District Court Judge Sharon Holmes. Holmes was found last week in a pool of blood inside her home in the 1300 block of North Denver Avenue.
Smith, according to a police report obtained by The Frontier, told police that she and her mother had argued about Smith’s father’s health. Smith said she left the room and returned later to find Holmes, the first black female district court judge in Tulsa County history, bleeding in the kitchen with a knife stuck in the back of her leg.
The police report states that the officer noticed the knife was in the sink with the faucet running. Holmes also had a broken ankle and possible facial injuries, though Smith told police the facial injuries would be from Smith slapping Holmes to keep her conscious.
Smith told police she did not see or hear her mother fall down on the knife in the kitchen.
There has been no update on Holmes’ condition Saturday, although she was reported to have been taken to the hospital last week with injuries that were considered not life threatening.
Holmes’ apparent stabbing was kept quiet for days, and the incident report states Sgt. Marcus Harper told the officer to file the incident as an “accidental injury.” The incident didn’t come to light until Thursday when the Tulsa world first obtained the police report.
Harper is the husband of city councilor Vanessa Hall-Harper, Tulsa’s lone black city councilor. Hall-Harper told The Frontier on Friday she believes her husband is being targeted because she is outspoken against the police department at times, as well as the Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police.
She also said Harper was being targeted because he wrote a letter supporting police reforms proposed by Mayor G.T. Bynum.
